Can you tell us what your typical day looks like? We typically start with a discussion of the
tasks for the day over lunch. After which, we catch up on correspondence with our clients, administrative tasks and follow up on any leads. Rest of the day would be spent on software development.
What parts of your job do you like the most?
I enjoy the flexibility in working hours and the ability to show up at work in comfortable clothes (on most days).
What parts of your job would you rather do without? A significant portion of my time goes to corresponding with clients and administrative tasks like generating invoices, quotations and design reviews, etc. I guess these would be things I'd rather do without.
What parts of your job did you not expect before you applied for it? I was not expecting the amount of administrative tasks involved in running a company, things like payroll, CPF, NSmen make-up pay registration, etc.
What advice would you give to someone else who is interested in this kind of job? Discipline, discipline, discipline!
What qualifications should someone have if they want to work in your field? None, really, just a passion for the industry and a willingness to learn and read thick volumes of programming books.
Are there any common misconceptions about your job, and what are they? As a provider of tailored software, clients somehow get the impression our availability is "tailored" too and we get SMS and phone calls at the strangest hours. |
