Can you tell us what your typical day looks like?
As the nature of my job is operational intensive, I have to handle many situations on an ad-hoc basis. The closest I can say to how my typical day is like will be to expect the unexpected through monitoring the booking and reservations status for the day and adjust my plans accordingly on the spot.

What parts of your job do you like the most?
I enjoy most of the interactions that I get with the guests and my staff. My industry depends a lot on the soft skills and engagement of our guests, both internal and external.

What parts of your job would you rather do without?
Certainly I would rather do with a reduction in the amount of administrative duties.

What parts of your job did you not expect before you applied for it?
Definitely the amount of administrative work involved.

What advice would you give to someone else who is interested in this kind of job?
Be prepared to handle any guest situations, be highly self-motivated and be able to put your personal feelings and emotions aside so that they do not get in the way of your job performance.

What qualifications should someone have if they want to work in your field?
It really depends on an individual’s aspirations. My field accepts all sorts of educational backgrounds, but what you want to achieve is important in determining the qualifications required. For example: A supervisor will require probably a diploma at least, a manager will require more, preferably with relevant experiences as well.

Are there any common misconceptions about your job, and what are they?
There is a common misconception that my field is all glamorous. However many people are not aware of the sweat and tears involved. People always get a shock when they just entered the industry as they find out the harsh reality in making all these happen.

Is there anything else you would like to share?
It is a great industry to be in if you are after job satisfaction and a lot of guest interaction. This industry also allows you the opportunity to travel and be relocated to another country for exposure.
